Causes Of Prostate Cancer

by Amy Hall

Scientists and researchers have been studying the possible causes of prostate cancer for years. There does not seem to be one specific cause that brings on the development of prostate cancer in men. However, there are certain behaviors that can elevate a man's risk, and these behaviors involve lifestyle habits.

One thing is certain--there does seem to be a connection between diet and prostate cancer. Men who consume a lot of red meat, dairy products, and eggs seem to be more prone to developing prostate cancer than those men who eat these foods in moderation or not at all. The ideal diet for minimizing the prostate cancer risk includes raw fruits and vegetables, lean cuts of fish and poultry, whole grains, and lots of water.

Furthermore, men who carry extra weight are also more likely to get prostate cancer. Therefore, it is recommended that men exercise at least five days per week to get the heart pumping and cardiovascular endurance up. Poor circulation due to obesity can be a contributing factor to prostate cancer, as nutrients are not able to reach all the cells in the body efficiently. It is also important that men abstain from smoking and keep alcohol consumption in check.

Prostate Cancer--Are You at Risk?

Age is probably the biggest determining factor for prostate cancer, as older men are much more likely to develop prostate cancer than younger men. The older you get, the more likely prostate cancer will strike. Therefore, it makes sense to control the risk factors within your ability to do so, such as diet and exercise. If you live a healthy life and you make it a priority to get tested annually for prostate cancer, you greatly reduce your chances of developing this disease.
