Pro Street Choppers

by Charles Peacock

Custom-built choppers have long been a part of the mythology of the American road. Their less-is-more styling gives them a certain purity that can't be found in the glossy motorcycles and cars produced by major manufacturers. And the fact that choppers are hand-built by people who truly love and understand their art makes them a throwback to the days when skilled craftsmanship wasn't such a rarity.

If you're in the market for a chopper, there are a few routes you can take. The first thing to keep in mind is that choppers aren't cheap. Normal Harley Davidsons usually cost upwards of $10,000, and a custom-made chopper is going to be every bit that expensive.

Designing a Custom Chopper

The prime reason for getting yourself a custom chopper is making sure you're driving something truly unique. Anybody can go to the local Harley dealership and pick up a beautiful bike that will impress their neighbors. In a crowd of true motorcycle enthusiasts, however, a custom bike is the only the thing that's really going to turn heads.

Custom choppers can be built from the ground up, exactly to your specifications. That means you can specify engine size, the look of the body and chrome on the bike, as well as the ever-important paint design. Working with a custom chopper designer will help you develop a theme and a look that is truly unique. You can also find custom mini choppers, which are less expensive and a lot of fun.
