Fireplace Mantels

by Serena Berger

A fireplace mantle is the decorative frame around a fireplace. Often it has a flat top on which you can display pictures, candleholders, or small treasures. Other times it is a more ornate architectural element in the room--even the dominant design element.

A fireplace mantle could be made of wood, stone, or marble. If you love classic style, but want to keep costs under control, you can opt for a reproduction of a mantle from any era of history. Ornate hand-carved mantels can turn a regular sitting room into a warm haven of relaxation and beauty.

Fireplace Mantels Add Character

While just having a working fireplace is something to be treasured, enhancing it with a ornate mantel adds the perfect frame to a crackling fire. Staring at a plain brick fireplace cannot compare to the warmth and appreciation you feel when gazing upon an expertly crafted marble masterpiece.

Marble is a natural material known for its opulence. Some of the finest homes in the world feature marble for its luster and incredible depth and variation of color. If you want to add a touch of elegance to your fireplace, there is nothing that lends more sophistication than a truly handsome mantel.
