Decorative Mirrors

It is one thing to have a basic floor length mirror on the inside of your closet door or a mirror on your medicine cabinet which is intended to be used specifically for you to check your appearance. It is quite another to use a mirror as a powerful object. A mirror may be a stunning decorative element--and more than that, it may have the power to change the energy in your home.

Whether or not you believe in Feng Shui, you will find that some of the principles of Feng Shui mirrors may be true for you in your home. In Feng Shui, it is believed that a mirror can protect you and bounce negative energy back to its point of origin. Whether you don't have the best relationship with your neighbors or feel that someone dislikes you and is thinking negative thoughts about you, a mirror placed so that it would reflect incoming energy can make you feel protected and insulated from those forces.

If that seems a little too far-out for you, think about what a mirror can do within your home. A mirror instantly makes any small space seem larger. A strategically placed large mirror can almost double the apparent size of a room. A mirror placed opposite a vase of flowers will make it look as though you have twice as many flowers.

And the space or object reflected by the mirror is not the sole source of its appeal. The mirror itself may be a beautiful work of art with hand carvings, gilding, leaf and floral designs, or a stunning frame. Mirrors can also be used to lighten up a room--if placed opposite a window, candle, or lamp, they will make the room seem warmer and more alive instantly.
