Materials from Which Crown Molding Is Made

You should consider the material from which your molding is constructed when deciding from whom to purchase it. Wood crown molding is subject to splintering, cracking and warping. It can also be damaged by insects and potentially water and heat. Plaster crown molding can be very difficult to install because of its weight and frailty.

You might want to consider purchasing crown molding made from polyurethane. Many of the same designs are available and you are much less likely to encounter problems installing it or caring for it. Like wood and plaster crown molding, you can also paint polyurethane crown molding so that it matches the rest of your design scheme.
