Being able to capture accurate data instantly, even away from the office is truly a necessity for many businesses in today's business environment. Employees in many industries are finding themselves on the go more than ever and mobile data capture is an ideal way to collect error free data for immediate or future evaluation and implementation.

Hardware is an important consideration. For mobile data capture to work properly, employees must have the right tools for the job. There are many handheld devices on the market, some are better than others. They must be compatible with your existing systems, so see what sort of bundled software is included with the device you're considering. You'll also want to see how information is entered into the device. Is information typed manually or is there a touch screen?

Another important consideration is communication capabilities. Will you be saving the information you collect onsite and then transferring it to a central computer later on? If so, you'll want a handheld device with a lot of internal storage. Or, will you need a wireless device that will transmit the information you collect immediately to another system? A device like that will be more expensive and will raise the issue of price as another consideration.
