If you are planning to put a custom countertop in your kitchen, there are a number of factors to consider. It is important to choose an appropriate material, shape and design for your piece. It is vital, as well, to make sure that the color and style will match the other elements of your kitchen. You might also want to consider adding extra pieces onto the countertop to customize and personalize it a bit more.

Factors to Consider with Custom Kitchen Countertops

One of the first things to choose when resurfacing your kitchen countertop is its composition. Different materials can work better in different places; if you have an oddly-shaped room or need a countertop in an unconventional size, you might consider a concrete surface. Some materials will stand up well over time, while others might visibly deteriorate. Make sure you are choosing a countertop material that will be appropriate for your needs.

Unlike with prefabricated countertops, you have a wide variety of colors from which to choose when planning your custom countertop. When working in concrete, be aware that it may take several samples to achieve the right color, as color matching with concrete is based on chemical reactions and blended aggregates. The cost of these samples is usually assimilated into the price of the final piece, however.
