Hand Readers

In the world of security, hand readers and fingerprint readers are quickly becoming very popular devices. I'm not talking about "palm" readers, which occupy an entirely different arena. There's nothing mystical about hand readers whatsoever. Hand readers are simply electronic devices that are designed to recognize and identify a person based on their fingerprints or hand signatures.

Some of the bigger casinos in Las Vegas are using hand readers to help beef up their already tight security. Caesar's Palace in particular uses a geometric hand reader to help eliminate the need for keys. This not only provides a system that cannot be "duped" but it also saves them money in the long run.

Casinos are one thing, and regular businesses are quite another. There is still a place for hand reader technology in the "normal" business world though. Some of the more sophisticated time clocks actually utilize hand reader technology. Instead of having a time card, an employee can simply use their hand as an identification method. This even eliminates the need for a bar-code style permanent time card.

Hand Readers Stop Card Swapping

One of the unfortunate realities of the time card system is that employees can generally "punch in" for their buddies and effectively beat the system. This "card swapping" can ultimately cost your business quite a bit of money in the long run. With a hand reader style time clock, it really becomes quite impossible to punch in for anyone but yourself.
