Summer Computer Camps
Summer Computer CampsThere is no way to fully appreciate the impact that computers have had on modern society. They are now a part of almost every industry, every home, and every schoolroom throughout the country. The technology boom has led people to view the job market as one that is and will continue to be dominated by computers. In many cases, children and teenagers have a much greater knowledge of computers than most adults. Kids around the country start working on computers at a very young age. Written compositions have given way to typed papers and basic typing classes have given way to courses that focus on programming and design. This has made parents happy, as they believe this training will allow their children to actually find work when they get out of school, and it has made the children happy, because they now have an excuse to indulge their love of computers and technology. Youth Summer Computer CampsThere are still a number of kids who head to traditional summer camps after that final school bell rings. They set out for cabins that stand alongside a creek and locales where they will spend their time developing archery skills, building campfires, swimming, and engaging in other time-honored camp activities. However, there is a growing group of children who opt to spend their summers honing their skills on the computer. It is possible to find summer computer camps at universities throughout the United States. This allows campers access to some of the finest computer labs in the world. It also gives them the chance to experience a bit (just a bit) of college life. They get to stay in dorms, flip the Frisbee on the quad, and eat at the cafeteria. Most computer camps do incorporate aspects of traditional camps, giving the kids a chance to participate in outdoor activities on a daily basis. Camp ClassesMost camps have classes for elementary school, middle school, and high school-aged kids. Any child who is serious about computers can find something that he is interested in. There are classes that allow campers to learn and work in the most popular programming languages. There are also courses in Flash animation, digital photography, web design, robotics, and the ever-popular subject of game design. Some camps have added a new type of game design to their curricula. It is called game modding, and experience in it is quickly becoming a requirement for new designers. Modding gives kids a chance to make small changes or entire overhauls to existing games. Signing up for Computer CampsThere are several computer camp programs out there. Most have certain courses or other activities that differentiate them from the others. Cost also varies from camp to camp. Most camps, though, are comparable in price to athletic camps and other specialty summer programs. It is possible to find overnight camps that last several weeks, but there are also camps in most cities that do not require a child to stay overnight. These day camps often offer the same courses as the others, but the campers do not generally have as much access to labs, and they don't get to participate in as many other camp functions. ![]() Get all Camps articles via
