HRIS Software

by Serena Berger

When it comes to meeting your HR needs, there are several options available to you. One possibility is for you to outsource all HR-related issues to a third party. Depending on the extent to which you do this, the company tending to your HR issues may become a legal partner in your company, responsible for everything related to your employees.

Other Options for Human Resources Issues

Alternatively, you can use web-based HRIS software that is administered from a server not owned by your company. An advantage to this method is that you can access records from any computer on the Internet. Also, you do not have to worry about maintaining the servers on which the software is installed or updating the software, as the software providers will take care of this.

Finally, you can purchase HR software and run it off of your computers. If you are going to purchase HR software, you may want to find a package that has a web interface that can be accessed from any computer on your intranet. Be aware, however, that if you purchase a software package, you or your IT staff become responsible for maintaining it. Given the importance of these records, you may not want to use this option unless you have a knowledgeable IT staff.

HRIS software should be able to cover all aspects of business related to your employees. An integrated package will link an attendance program with a payroll module, so that you can easily generate files to send to your payroll provider. You should also look for modules that facilitate employee reviews and may even include modules that simplify the hiring process.
