Human Resources Management Tools

by Serena Berger

Recruiting is one of the most complicated aspects of HR management, and often one of the areas in which companies could most stand to improve. It is rare to find a company that deals equally well with applications in various media. You may have an HR director who reads only online applications, or one who prefers good, old-fashioned paper resumes. The thing is, you never really know how the most qualified applicants will come to you, and you don't want a technology bias to keep you from ending up with the right person in the right job.

Human Resources Management Tools for Recruitment

The solution is a recruitment software package that can accelerate the recruitment cycle and enable you to deal with applications received in any format. Once you have the applicants' information uploaded into a database, you can define fields that account for the keywords or skills that may be relevant to any position in the company. Even if you begin formulating the database with one job in mind, you may find over time that you want to call people in for interviews who had the training or experience relevant to a different position.

You can also use the database to create summary profiles of any candidates and pass them on to managers who might want to consider them. The software can also be used if you have an interview process where multiple people meet with the same candidate at different times. A person who is about to meet with a candidate can check up-to-the-minute feedback from others to get a sense of potential problem areas or concerns. Then that interviewer can add his or her comments after attempting to address those concerns.

If you have a fully integrated system, employee files can be made directly from the database started during the recruitment process. Furthermore, promoting from within becomes easier when you have all of this information stored and easily accessible. You can also use this data to have someone do an employee background check, which is an essential part of the hiring process and protects your business from negligent hiring liability and discrimination litigation.
