Maui Oceanfront Real Estate

by Sierra Rein

Maui oceanfront real estate is probably the most highly prized of all island residential land. While some people prefer higher elevation real estate, most people imagine themselves living a few miles or a few feet from the white sands of the beach. Luckily, there are many areas to choose from within the outlying beach areas of the island.

On average, the most expensive Maui oceanfront real estate is located in the cities of Kapalua, Wailea, and Makena. In spring of 2005, the average price for a condominium in Kapalua was $1,159,375. At the same time, single family homes averaged about $2,175,000.

However, one can find more affordable Maui oceanfront real estate in the more remote areas of the island. These areas can be great for those who wish to find tranquility rather than large-city experiences. For example, in the spring of 2005, the average price for a single family home in the southwestern city of Lahaina was $884,000, while a condominium in the same city was about $653,164.

Those who wish to live near the airports should look into the oceanfront areas in the northeastern, central north, and far western parts of the island. The cities of Kapalua and Kaanapali are near the West Maui Airport. The popular Kahului Airport is situated in the centrally-located Kahului Bay, while the smaller Hans Airport can be accessed from the remote city of Hana on the northeast side.
