South Maui Real Estate

by Sierra Rein

The southern side of Maui is filled with a number of different possibilities to purchase, rent, or sell real estate. South Maui is famous for the Kamaole beaches and the cities of Kihei, Wailea, and Makena. The far southeastern side also contains the remote city of Kipahulu and the Alenuihaha Channel.

The south beachfront of Maui is the one area of the island that has the least number of major cities. This is because the area between Makena in the west and Kipahulu in the east is a large Natural Area Reserve. Called the Ahihi-Kina'u Natural Area Reserve, the Makena Coast is less populated and a great area for locals or retirees to buy real estate.

South Maui real estate is extremely popular for individuals who wish to settle down for good on the great island. Most real estate agents divide the southern beach side by beachfront areas. For example, a condominium might be listed next to the Keawakapu Beach, or the Kamaole Beach III. In 2005 the average single family home in Wailea and Makena estimates at around $2,825,000, while a condominium lists a median price of $885,000.

Luxury South Maui Real Estate Options

While many south Maui complexes have the feel of old Polynesian villages, others provide completely modern luxury condominium living. Some condominium resorts are filled with ponds, waterfalls, ocean views, golf court facilities, and easy access to beachfront restaurants, tropical gardens, and recreation areas. These are great locations for people who wish to retire, invest in land and real estate, or just have a ready vacation spot to travel to at any time of the year.
