Central Maui Real Estate

by Sierra Rein

Although located between two beautiful bays, the real estate in central Maui is not considered the most elegant or luxurious on the island. Instead, central Maui real estate is known for its practical nature, affordability, and numerous opportunities for residents and businesses alike to find a permanent, long-term resting place. Thus, those who wish to find the glitz and glamour of the resort life should instead look to the eastern and western areas of the island.

Central Maui is a great for anyone interested in finding a place to settle down in a convenient residential area. The architecture on this part of the island is more functional in style, and is typically homey and comfortable. While other parts of the island feature famous beaches, opportunities for a wild nightlife, and high quality condominiums and mansions, central Maui is made for those who wish for a slower, more reserved lifestyle.

Finding Areas for Central Maui Real Estate

There are two main cities in central Maui that boast many real estate opportunities, for both commercial and residential use. Kahului is an old fishing village and port town on the northeast side of the island and features many buildings for residents, retail businesses, and industrial warehouse supply companies. It also features the Kahului Airport. The northwest coast of central Maui includes Waihe'e and Waiehu, two semi-rural residential spots full of rugged yet affordable housing developments.

For those interested in commercial potential, central Maui real estate is also the home to many shopping centers, including the Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center, Triangle Square, Kahului Shopping Center, Maui Mall and the Maui Marketplace. Wailuku, the county seat of Maui, is located west of Kahului and features government buildings, galleries, art and cultural centers, and many areas to establish businesses along the Main and Market streets. In addition, many of the residential real estate buildings within the Wailuku neighborhood and the nearby Iao Valley are more than 50 years old.
