CoiloversThe average car buff will probably not concern himself too much with coilovers. However, the average racing buff will think about them all the time. Coilovers lower a vehicle. Once the car is lowered it will respond faster and it will corner better. Drops vary with the type of coilover, but most allow an adjustable shift of zero to four inches. Many of the coilovers on the market allow a driver to make modifications quickly, so if winter is in the air and the car needs to be raised in order to deal with the elements, it can be taken care of before the first snowflake even touches the ground. Coilovers affect a car in several different areas. The lower point of gravity that they create in the vehicle allows it to handle better. Also, the car becomes more aerodynamic and wind resistant, so it becomes faster. Also, coilovers give the car a racing look, and often the look of the car is almost as important as its performance. Types of CoiloversThere are coilovers for almost every make and model of automobile on the market. There are items designed specifically for Chevy Caviliers, Ford trucks, and everything in between. They can be found through a number of different aftermarket distributors at relatively low prices. There have been a few breakthroughs in coilovers in the past couple of years. There are now brands available that keep the car balanced after it is lowered. They also eliminate the bounce that often occurs once a car has been dropped. Many of these coilovers are incredibly durable, never rusting or stripping, so a driver does not have to worry about replacing them each time a new racing season begins. ![]() Get all Auto Parts articles via
