Group Hotel Rooms

by Rylee Newton

When planning group travel, it's important to book hotel rooms in advance. Many hotel chains offer significant discounts for groups of more than ten people. In order to receive this discounts, you usually need to book the rooms at least three months in advance.

When booking hotel rooms for groups, it's always a good idea to negotiate with the booking agent for the best price. If you're new to travel planning, you might not be aware of just how much flexibility most hotels have in their room rates. It's always a good idea to ask if there's any room for improvement on your initial price quote. If your booking rooms during the off-peak season, there is even more room for negotiating the price of the rooms.

Booking Group Rooms

Every hotel has a different policy when it comes to booking groups. One of the best ways to handle group bookings is to hold a block of rooms under your name. Once the rooms are held, you need to have the people in your group call the hotel and reserve the rooms with their credit cards. The hotel generally holds a block of rooms for a certain amount of time, and then releases them if all of the rooms have not been reserved by at least three weeks before you are due to arrive.

In general, it's a good idea to avoid hotels that require you to pay for all of the rooms in advance. Many times, a group member will cancel at the last minute, leaving you to pay the bill. Some hotels also charge the group planner for these last minute cancellations. It's important to find out the cancellation policy before booking any hotel for your group.
