Effective Acne Treatments

by Blaire Chandler-Wilcox

Effective acne treatments are best recommended by one's doctor or dermatologist. Acne is a highly individual disease, and one's age, skin type and lifestyle may play a role in determining which treatment works best. However, many dermatologists' top recommendations are available without a prescription.

Full Solutions and Individual Products

Popular acne treatments are often found in full systems. Full systems would include special cleansers, toners, moisturizers and creams designed to work together to provide full-spectrum protection. Some treatment lines also include body washes, lotions and powders for those who suffer acne breakouts in areas other than the face. Many of the most effective full systems have actually been developed by leading dermatologists.

Individual products also exist that contain effective acne fighting ingredients. Salicylic acid and glycolic acid are two popular ingredients in such products. Vitamin A and vitamin A derivatives also play a key part, as does vitamin B5. However, talk to your doctor about the concentration which would work best for you individually.

When treating acne at home, pay attention as well to any other products which come in contact with your face and affected body areas. Cosmetics, in particular, are directly related to acne treatment and prevention. Again, talk to your doctor about whether or not he or she has recommendations for preferred products.
