Book Self Publishing
Book Publishing CompaniesThere are a few different models for book publishing companies these days. There are the traditional publishers, the vanity press publishers, and self publishing companies. There are very significant differences between the different models, and not every one of them is right for each manuscript. Types of Book Publishing CompaniesTraditional publishing companies buy the rights to a book and then send it through their process of publishing. This includes editing for content and errors, designing the book cover, producing the book, and marketing the book. The author is paid either in an advance or in royalties. Because traditional publishing companies take on all of the financial risk, the royalties are usually lower than with other publishing companies. Vanity press publishers are smaller publishing companies that charge a fee for their services and assume the rights to the books. Typically, they are not at all selective about the material they will publish, and they will basically publish any manuscript for a price. Consequently, vanity publishers have a bad reputation, and books produced in this way will carry a stigma. Additionally, there are a number of vanity presses that operate unethically and will scam writers out of their money. Self publishing companies are the final option for most authors. Self publishing companies are very straightforward. They will produce a book for a price, and the writer will maintain the rights to the book and be responsible for all of the marketing. Many writers prefer self publishing because they maintain the rights to their books. They also offer copy editing, design, and marketing services for an additional cost. These self publishing companies are more reputable than vanity press publishers and can be very flexible while still giving you online and bookstore distribution. ![]() Get all Book Printing articles via
