MaxTNT

by Clive Swanepoel

The MAX TNT, supplied by Ascend Communications, is a WAN access switch that enables users to access local or remote networks via analog, ISDN, leased T1/E1, or frame relay connections. The MAX TNT can handle up to 960 concurrent users over a variety of access services. Bandwidth is preserved by aggregating multiple calls and managing dial-up connections effectively.

Integrated Modems

High-speed modems are integrated into the MAX TNT platform eliminating the need for separate banks of modems, terminal servers, routers, and access lines. Modules are available that allow network managers to install the MAX TNT into their existing network infrastructure. Standard routing protocols such as RIP, RIP2, OSPF, TCP/IP and IPX are supported.

For network security purposes, MAX TNT can be configured to use existing network authentication databases. In addition it supports PAP, CHAP, and MS-CHAP; Ascend Access Control, encrypted token card security, callback, CLID, password protected terminal server access, transmit and receive packet filtering. Remote software upgrades and hot-swappable, dual redundant power supplies enable continuous operation.

The Patton Electronics Model 2977 Remote Access Server is an alternative product that offers a scaleable and flexible solution. These server-based adapter cards can be plugged into any existing standard PCI 2.1 slot. Easy to install and configure, these adapters support a full range of connections including T1/E1 and Primary Rate Interface (PRI) ISDN. Multiple Digital Domain adapters can be installed in a single server to meet increased demand. There is a web-based management tool and free support. Software updates are also free for the life of the product and can be downloaded from the Patton support website.
