Diamond Semi MountsA semi mounted piece of jewelry is a ring setting that already has the accent gems or precious stones mounted on the side of it. The majority of semi-mounted rings are sold with an empty set of center prongs. These prongs are intentionally left unfilled, so that they can eventually hold a diamond stone that has been hand-selected by the purchaser. Semi mount rings allow the purchaser to personalize a ring, without having to design it completely from scratch. However, when purchasing a semi mounted setting, make sure its head can house the diamond you intend to set in the center. Most jewelers will list in their product description what size diamond the ring can accommodate. The size of a diamond is measured in carats. One metric carat is approximately equal to 200 milligrams. As a general rule, the larger the carat size, the more expensive the diamond is. Gorgeous Diamond Semi MountsAlthough the advertised price for complete rings commonly includes the center diamond, keep in mind that the diamond semi mounts do not. The price listed for the diamond semi mounts is usually only for the shank, which is the circular band portion of the ring that holds the head. Therefore, before you think about purchasing a semi mounted ring, make sure your budget includes the diamond you ultimately plan to embed in it. ![]() Get all Fine Jewelry articles via
