Wall Street Journal SubscriptionsThe Wall Street Journal is one of the most influential and respected newspapers in the world. Published daily in the heart of New York's Financial District, the "Journal" (as it is typically referred to) has a daily circulation of over two million. It is the leading business publication in the world, and is the official flagship publication of Dow Jones and Company. Since its first printing in 1889, The Journal has received 29 Pulitzer Prizes for journalistic excellence. It employs over 700 journalists located the world over. In addition to the Journal itself, there are multiple spin-off publications, most notably the Asian Wall Street Journal, Wall Street Journal Europe, and The Wall Street Journal Online, which proudly advertises itself as the Web's largest paid subscription news site. One of the most distinctive features of the Journal is its exclusive use of "hedcuts" rather than photographs. Hedcuts are stipple, or "ink dot" drawings. Beyond just their choice of illustrative techniques, however, the Journal is a unique voice in business coverage, with newspaper sections dedicated to US and international business coverage, industry news regarding health, marketing, media and technology sectors, financial news, personal investment advice, and a "weekender" section which covers real estate, travel and sports. "United by the Mantra 'Free Markets and Free Peoples' "Politically speaking, the Journal tends to be conservative. In fact, in 1951, the then editor William H. Grimes clearly stated the paper's conservative foundation: "We make no pretense of walking down the middle of the road. Our comments and interpretations are made from a definite point of view." However, space is sometimes allotted to the views of more liberal writers. The Editorial Page will often feature the musings of prominent world leaders, such as foreign heads of state and US Supreme Court Justices. ![]() Get all Magazines articles via
