Maxim magazine is the most popular men's general interest publication in the United States. Most famous for its ability to get famous, beautiful young women to get near-naked for its infamous photo shoots, Maxim readers also claim, "hey, the articles are really good too...."

Known for an arch, irreverent tone, many readers liken Maxim to a combination of Details meets Mad Magazine. Other readers liken it to PG 13 porn. Most consistently it's referred to as being Cosmo, but for guys.

Without question, the number one focus of Maxim is sex. Its articles on the subject are said to be funny, frank, occasionally crude, but always clear. Other areas of devotion are cars, cool gadgets, fashion and style tips, travel ideas, and what's really worth seeing in theatres and listening to in music stores.

Interestingly enough, while there aren't a lot of guys confessing to reading Cosmo, there are no end of women who admit they're devoted, albeit closet, readers of Maxim. Many of the femmes that read it on the sly say they do so to "get an idea of what's going on in his mind," and to get pointers of their own on how to please their fella. Regardless of motivation, many consumer reviews by both men and women talk about how couples playfully argue each month about who gets to read it first when it comes in the mail. Maxim may not be "clean," but it's certainly good fun.
