Nickelodeon Magazine

by Blaire Chandler-Wilcox

Nickelodeon magazine was first published in 1975. In the years since, it has become the number one magazine for kids between the ages of six and 13. And it's not just popular with the wee-ones. Nickelodeon magazine has garnered just about every award possible from both parents and educators.

Smart Fun

Every issue has a particular theme designed to stimulate kids' creativity, spark their minds, and make them laugh. Jokes, pranks, pull-out comic books and puzzles compete for space side-by-side with articles written in their trademark irreverent tone. Colorful pictures and plenty of things to do satisfy both kids' aesthetics and their developing minds.

As an example, a recent issue was dedicated to "Vision." In addition to well-written, but easy to understand articles about how the eyes work, there are interviews with movie stars about their favorite sunglasses, and a feature which allows readers to provide a review of eyeglasses. By using this multifaceted approach, kids walk away thinking they've just had fun, but in reality have expanded their education considerably.

Nickelodeon magazine is a great stand-alone product, but of course serves as a fine companion to their highly awarded network. There are frequent spin-off, one-time mags dedicated to enduring, popular characters, like Jimmy Neutron, Dora the Explorer, and SpongeBob SquarePants. Plus, there's a fun interactive website that kids can enjoy to its fullest.
