Excessive paperwork was always a major obstruction to the administration of medical care and insurance. Patients had to wait for significant periods of time before they could obtain medical coverage. HIPAA helped address this predicament. One of the ways they achieved this was by introducing technology to the world of medical care.

Accordingly, HIPAA regulations introduced safety procedures to safeguard the secrecy of patient health at all times. While information can still be shared among a number of different entities, there are strict regulations on how this must be done.

The new system not only preserves greater confidentiality of patient health information, but also protects from unauthorized access once the medical information is archived and no longer current. HIPAA regulations are strictly enforced when it comes to protecting the privacy of patients. All documentation is carefully disposed of; all paperwork is routinely shredded. This helps to prevent fraud and any attempts to obtain medical information for criminal reasons.
