Boys Summer Camps
Teen Summer CampThere are many reasons that teens attend camps during the summer. For some, camp offers the chance to improve at a particular sport or craft. Others have been attending the same camp for years and return to spend the summer with their camp friends. Many summer camps sponsor teenagers from the city who may have never had the chance to spend a summer in the fresh air of the country. These programs help teens to embrace and recognize diversity, whether they are rural or urban-born. Camps are often a destination for teenagers who need extra challenges and opportunities to develop. There are special programs designed to build self-esteem and channel extra energy into healthy pastimes. Teens are encouraged to try new activities and are challenged to cultivate leadership skills and abilities. Special Teen ProgramsTeen years are a time when young men and women believe that they should be treated as adults, yet they still want to do childish things. It can be confusing and frustrating for all involved, including parents and teachers. Many camps offer a counselor-in-training or CIT program for fifteen and sixteen-year-old campers. This is often the perfect chance for young adults to spread their wings and learn about responsibility A CIT program gives teens more tasks and jobs than a regular camper, yet still allows them to have a fun and exciting summer. They will live in cabins, with an older counselor, and are called upon to be leaders for younger campers. They may be asked to plan and execute evening activities or to be a chaperone on day trips. Each task is designed to help hone their skills as leaders and potential counselors. Whether or not a camp has a CIT program, the overall camp experience is beneficial to many teenagers. ![]() Get all Camps articles via
