Natural Weight Loss

by Emily Ledbetter

Each year, thousands of people fall into the trap of fad dieting and the result is often a quick weight loss that all comes back over time. Many of these diets involve severely limiting or either substantially increasing intake of one certain type of food--low fat, low carb, no sugar, high protein. . .sound familiar? A much more healthy and effective way to approach weight loss is to determine the cause of weight gain and create a plan for taking it off with the combination of a healthy, balanced diet, exercise and natural supplements.

Problems Associated with Obesity

The most popular reason for losing weight is based on appearance - people trying to fit into their favorite pair of old jeans, those looking for quick weight loss before a big event or the hordes of individuals trying to get that illusive "bikini body" for the summer. However, there are a number of health issues associated with obesity which also provide motivation for significant weight loss. Someone who is 40 percent overweight is twice as likely to die prematurely as a person of average weight. Risks associated with obesity include heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer.

The Role of Supplements

The most basic factor in a weight loss plan is making lifestyle adjustments through diet and exercise so that more calories are burned than consumed. However, that is much easier said than done. That is where supplements can aid an individual in their weight loss efforts. Certain supplements have been proven to decrease appetite, increase satiety, decrease fat absorption and speed metabolism. However, there is no magic weight loss pill that will allow a person to consume an unhealthy diet, perform no type of moderate exercise and pop a pill to fuel significant weight loss.

Supplements formulated using ingredients such as lipoic acid, antioxidants, chromium, fiber and stevia, combined with diet and exercise can lead to significant, long-term weight loss. It is recommended that individuals consult with a physician before beginning any plan for significant weight loss as there may be other serious factors contributing to weight problems.
