Lock Toolbars

By default, most Windows and Web-based applications allow users to decide which toolbars will be visible. Many applications also provide the user with the ability to decide exactly where the toolbar is displayed. Toolbars that can be dragged and then drop in another location within the same application are typically referred to as dockable toolbars.

Although the majority of people really like having control over how their toolbars will be displayed, there may be instances where the developer of the application might want to lock the toolbars. Locking the toolbar means that the user can't hide it from their view. It also means that the user can't change the default location of the toolbar.

Pinning Down the Toolbars

On the other hand, there are times when the user is the one that wants to lock the toolbars. This is especially the case if the user has created custom toolbars to use in the application. One of the biggest problems people experience with custom toolbars, is that they seem to appear in different places each time the user opens the application.

The user can generally lock the toolbars, by making certain modification to the registry for the application. However, this method is risky as there is always the possibility that you might cause damage to your application. Other options include creating macros that can lock the position of the toolbar or downloading one of the applications that will lock them for you.
