Citrus Aurantium

by Kimberly Clark

Citrus aurantium is the botanical name for a fruit in the citrus family called "bitter orange." The following five adrenergic amines are derived from Citrus aurantium: synephrine, N-methyltyramine, hordenine, octopamine, and tyramine. For centuries, the Chinese have used both the ripe and unripe parts of this fruit to treat all sorts of afflictions of the digestive and circulatory system.

More recently, people have started using the unripe or bitter part of this fruit as a fat burning supplement. Through a process called lipolysis, the supplements stimulate the production of hormones that increase the rate at which the body burns stored fat. These hormones also have the ability to speed up the resting metabolic rate of the body.

Health Benefits of Citrus Supplements

Because it stimulates the digestive system, Citrus aurantium is a fairly good treatment for stomach aches that have been brought on by such things as indigestion, nausea, and constipation. In addition, it can be used as a cough expectorant or a diuretic. Citrus aurantium has also been shown to be quite effective in alleviating insomnia and shock.

Like other members of the citrus family, Citrus aurantium contains a significant amount of vitamin C, which can be used to bolster the immune system. In addition, it can aid anemics in absorbing iron into their bloodstream. Citrus aurantium is also believed to notably increase energy levels.
