Green Tea Extract

by Kimberly Clark

Tea drinking has a rather long history that has survived the test of time. Nowadays, tea is one of the most popular drinks in the world. In fact, it is second only to water.

In addition to being an enjoyable beverage, tea leaves have demonstrated several healing and therapeutic abilities. Green tea, in particular, has been proven to be laden with a powerful antioxidant known as epigallocatechin-gallate or EGCG for short. Regularly drinking green tea can help to prevent various types of cancer, reduce blood pressure and guard against heart disease by lowering cholesterol levels

Green tea leaves are also a good source of fluoride. Therefore, green tea extract can be used to help prevent cavities and fight gum disease. Furthermore, green tea contains compounds called tannins that are very effective in treating conditions that upset the stomach such as diarrhea and indigestion.

Is Green Tea Your Cup of Tea?

Because green tea is such a potent source of EGCG, studies have shown that drinking just three to four cups per day will provide the consumer with significant health benefits. As a matter of fact, two eight ounce cups of green tea contain the same amount of antioxidants found in one serving of fruit or vegetables. Of course, if drinking green tea is not your cup of tea, there is no need to worry.

These days, there are all sorts of supplements being made today that contain green tea extract. These supplements are available in tablets, powder, or capsule forms. What's more, the supplements are concentrated so they contain up to three times as many antioxidants as a single cup of green tea.
