Exedy Flywheels

by Adam Lee

Clutch performance is of paramount importance for high performance racing. The Exedy Corporation based out of Japan is world renowned for producing some of the most high performance clutch and flywheel systems available on the market today. Exedy is the number one supplier of clutches on the Japanese racing circuit, and supplies clutches to all major Japanese auto manufactures as well as Ford and General Motors.

Exedy, a Hallmark of Quality

All Exedy high performance and racing clutches are designed and built as racing clutches, and are never rebuilt from preexisting systems. Whereas most clutch manufacturers produce their clutch systems from cast iron, all Exedy products are composed of nodular iron for enhanced safety and performance. Exedy has been building clutches for over 75 years, and their experience shines through in a full range of high quality performance products.

In order to improve engine response, Exedy branched out into producing racing flywheels for their clutch systems. Manufactured from billet chromoly steel, Exedy flywheels are safer than lightened cast iron flywheels. These high performance flywheels are designed to reduce engine weight and inertia, and incorporate special design features to enhance airflow for improved clutch cooling.

Exedy lightweight racing flywheels are available for a number of Japanese automobiles for specific engine models and model years. Exedy is the only racing clutch manufacturer whose products have a full line certification to S.F.I. specifications. This is because all other manufacturers start with stock clutches and then weld the lining or add weights to improve clutch performance. This gives Exedy lightweight racing clutches a tremendous advantage, and really highlights Exedy's commitment to racing excellence.
