Car Upgrades
Boost GaugesFor any enthusiast looking to upgrade his car's stock turbo system, a boost gauge is an important product to add to your car's equipment regiment. A stock boost gauge becomes inaccurate after upgrades are added to a stock turbo system, and most enthusiasts would prefer not blowing their engines in an over boost situation. A quality boost gauge can accurately measure boost levels, and help the enthusiast avoid serious engine damage. What To Look for in a Quality Boost GaugeBoost gauges come in two styles. The first is an analogue system that uses engine pressures to measure engine performance. The second type of boost gauge is an electronic system, which typically not only measures boost levels, but usually come with a variety of other handy features. Some of the features provided by an electronic boost gauge include peak hold function, turbo timer mode, and over boost warning. Peak hold function measures the highest level of boost achieved by the auto, and when a new level of boost is achieved, it changes the peak hold measurement. Turbo timer mode allows the engine to idle after the key has been removed from the ignition switch, which allows the turbo to continue cooling after the car is off, which prevents the oil from solidifying. Over boost warning alerts the driver to the potential of engine damage caused by over boost by either an audible or visual signal. Whether you choose an analogue or electronic boost controller, make sure your purchase comes with the proper installation parts to insure fewer trips to the parts store. An analogue boost controller should come with hosing to connect between the turbocharger and the gauge. An electronic boost gauge should include the necessary wiring kit. A boost gauge is an inexpensive way to avoid expensive engine damage. ![]() Get all Auto Parts articles via
