Free Website Submissions

by Stephanie Dula

When a company advertises free website submission services, there are a few things to take into consideration before signing up. First of all, it's important to check out which search engines are included in the package. Most companies have a free package that submits a site to up to 40 engines, as well as a paid package that submits the site to many more and includes additional services.

Each company's offerings should be carefully examined before making a decision, and all the engines included should be viable institutions that provide quality listings for consumers. Some companies may inflate their numbers with search engines that no longer exist or that won't really help increase a website's visibility. Additionally, some of the search engines included on the list may not even accept automated submissions.

Submission Methods

A free service can certainly come in handy for those who prefer the convenience of filling out one form for up to 40 search engines. However, manual submission may return better results for those with small sites and the time to individually submit to at least the most popular search engines. Since each engine holds it's own unique guidelines for submission, a bulk service may not meet the requirements for every engine on the list.

Getting listed on the most popular search engine indices will significantly boost brand recognition and website traffic for a small business, and proper submission is not something to be taken lightly. While free automated services may be the best option in some situations, it should only be employed after other tactics are explored, including manual submission if time permits.
