Website Submission Software

by Stephanie Dula

Webmasters and website promoters often use automated software to submit their clients' sites to multiple search engines at once. This software has made it possible to simply fill out one form for all the major engines, depending on the needs of the business. While using this type of promotion tool can save much time when it comes to getting a website listed, each software package should be carefully considered as to which engines are included and any additional services provided.

Search Engine Quality

First, look at the list of search engines to which the software will automatically submit a site. Are they all recognizable names, with adequate links provided so that they can be checked out individually? If not, they may be of poor quality, inappropriate, or even nonexistent. There are hundreds of quality search engines operating on the Web, not thousands as claimed by many submission services.

Only through knowledge of each search engine's strengths and benefits can an informed decision be made as to which ones would provide the most appropriate visibility for a website. Some sites are specialized to particular interests and may result in more focused traffic for a website that advertises a certain product or service. A good software package will include a way to sort search engines so that automated submission can be tailored to each individual website.

Each engine will employ different methods for submission, including confirmation of success or the need for resubmission. Only by keeping track of all these elements can an individual achieve a listing on a major search engine, so it's important to follow all guidelines carefully. For this reason, many small businesses choose to manually submit to many top engines, though this can take much more time and energy than working with one form on a software program.
