Santa Rosa Dental Crowns

by Tara Peris

In Santa Rosa, patients who are interested in dental reconstruction typically are advised to consider the use of crowns and bridges. Although there are a host of different techniques for restoring the function and appearance of the teeth, these two strategies are among the most popular and the most reliable. If you suffer from chipped, damaged, or broken teeth, talk to your dentist about the benefits of using crowns.

Creating Crowns

Dental crowns are essentially a type of "cap" that fits over a decaying or damaged tooth. The crown is cemented in place, which serves to keep it secure and to strengthen the tooth underneath. In addition, people may use crowns to improve the look of the teeth, either by enhancing their color or shape.

To create your dental crowns, the dentist will begin by making a plaster mold of your teeth. This mold will then be used to analyze the alignment and function of the teeth and to craft a suitable cap. Given that the mold allows for complex, multi-dimensional analysis, it is possible to not only restore the original functioning of the teeth, but to improve upon it by designing a more effective crown.

Obviously, this is a complex process and it requires exacting standards and attention to detail. Before pursuing services, you should talk to your dentist about alternative procedures (e.g., fillings) and about the pros and cons of each option. Crowns are often your best bet, but you should have a clear sense of the unique advantages they will provide to you.
