Cemetery Memorials

by Gina Carroll

The cemetery memorial is one of the last and most lasting tributes to the life of the deceased. They do not just mark the grave site of a loved one, but they memorialize what the loved one meant to his or her family. Before you decide what kind of cemetery memorial you want to invest in, there are some important considerations.

Most cemeteries reserve the right to restrict the kind of memorials that are placed on the grave sites. The cemetery restrictions set forth the cemetery's limitations of size and type of memorial. Some cemeteries only allow a bronze marker that is flush to the ground, for example. Before you decide on a cemetery, you may want to review its memorial restriction to be sure that it allows the type of memorial you are contemplating.

Your choice of memorial can be as simple as a small flush marker and as grand as a large statue or monument. The variety of choices may seem endless. Although you should have an idea of what you want as you are making your burial arrangements, you may want to wait until after the ceremony to make a final decision. It is best not to rush your final choice. The memorial must be the lasting representation of your loved one for years to come.

Retailer and Artisans

The choice of a retailer may take some time, as well. Review the offerings of the cemetery, other local retailers and retailers on the Internet. You will find many variations of the standard choices. And in addition, there are artisans who create customized and one-of-a-kind monuments for the discriminating buyer.
