Cemetery Chapels

by Gina Carroll

It is customary for cemeteries to have a chapel on their grounds. The chapel tends to be a central feature of the cemetery and is designed for the express purpose of hosting funeral and memorial services for its burial customers. The cemetery chapel is usually non-denominational, except when it is located in a religious cemetery.

Using the chapel of the cemetery where your plot is located simplifies your burial experience. You streamline the planning process since more of your service providers are in one place and you eliminate the need for a procession on the day of the burial services. The reduction of your transportation needs should result in cost savings, as well.

At a full-service cemetery, you can further simplify your burial plans. A full-service cemetery provides complete burial services--full funeral home services, complete crematory services, all burial options, a chapel for ceremonies, and often, an on-site florist. You do not have to use all of the services offered. But you can pick and choose in order to create the experience you desire.

Full-Service Cemeteries Easier for Combining Services

Choosing a full-service cemetery also facilitates the combination of services. If you want to combine a full funeral with a cremation, for example, all of the services involved with that would be in one place--the preparation of the body for the viewing and the funeral, and then the subsequent cremation and internment. If you also used the chapel, all of your pre-planning visits and event activity would be in one place.
