Memorial Services
Memorial FoldersIn some parts of the country, memorial folders are an important detail of a funeral or memorial service. A memorial folder is a folded card which can measure as small as 4.5 x 4 inches and as large as 7 x 8.5 inches. It is a death announcement and a memento of the life of a loved one. They are given to guests at the funeral or memorial service. The memorial folder usually contains the date of birth and death, the visitation times, service times and the service and burial locations. It may contain other obituary-type information about the family and life of the deceased. There is often a picture of the deceased. The folder may also contain personal poems, scripture or other keepsake information. In other regions, funeral homes and churches use a funeral program. The program has similar information as the memorial folder, only it contains the order of events during the funeral or memorial service and the names of the program participants. How to Prepare a Folder or ProgramUsually, the funeral home will furnish the memorial folder or program. They will collect the information from the family and arrange for the program/folder to be made and delivered to the location of the services. They will offer choices of styles and help the family edit the information. Often churches offer this kind of service, as well. There lots of resources for the family that chooses to do the folder or program themselves. Printing and software companies advertise on the Internet, with a large variety of styles, paper choices and templates for sale. ![]() Get all Grief articles via
