ACF Certification

No matter what area a student in the culinary industry prefers, it is important that he or she enrolls in a program that will lead to American Culinary Federation certification. Earning ACF certification signifies that the culinary artist has gained the expertise needed to become a professional in this competitive and rewarding field. As the most prestigious professional chefs' organization in the country, ACF was one of the first to begin the process of elevating chefs from the status of service workers to that of culinary professionals.

ACF Certification and Activities

ACF offers both practical and written testing for 14 different areas of expertise including Certified Master Chef, Certified Executive Chef, and Certified Secondary Culinary Educator. Since its inception, the value of ACF certification has increased by improving the quality of professional expertise in the food industry. At the same time, ACF offers several other features that continue to enhance the level of culinary services in the United States.

For example, by sanctioning and supporting culinary competitions at many different levels both in the United States and oversees, ACF enhances students' and professionals' opportunities to learn from others in a positive and rewarding setting. It also creates situations in which culinary experts can be recognized by their peers and even receive awards. In addition, competitions help to keep professionals in touch with each other, and valuable contacts are often created.

As with most other industries, the culinary industry is moving forward at an impressive pace, especially when it comes to technological improvements. At local, national, and regional conventions and conferences, chefs can learn about these advances from their peers and from companies that offer products to make the process easier and better. This also allows chefs more latitude when developing new recipes.

ACF certification candidates must have a high school diploma and must complete both practical and course work before becoming certified.
