Laguna Beach PaintingThe beauty of Laguna Beach has been recognized throughout the centuries. From the early Native Americans who named the area "lagonas," which means lake, to the early 20th century artists who founded the thriving community, Laguna Beach has been and continues to be a place of inspiration. For this reason, it is now a thriving vacation and resort spot, as well as home to many who enjoy its peaceful beauty. For business owners who aim to draw more visitors and tourists, or homeowners who are looking to update the look of their houses, there is often a desire to repaint the outside of a building. This undertaking is not terribly difficult, especially with the help of a professional painter. However, if the building in question was built before 1978, there are a few safety tips that should be kept in mind. Safety Tips for Painting Older HousesHouse paints, for much of the 20th century, were lead-based. These days, we know that lead can be toxic to humans and particularly to children under the age of six. The dust that forms from scraping away old paint should be avoided. Be sure to wear proper face protection and promptly change out of work clothes after being in the contaminated area. Once the scraping is done, all debris should be cleared away with a vacuum and preferably one that has a HEPA filter. To help eliminate the dangers of lead poisoning, it may be a good idea to hire a professional who has experience working with older houses. A good professional will know the safety guidelines and should take all precautions necessary. Once your paint job is complete, it is a good idea to test for lead dust in the air. Once the area is clear, you can enjoy your freshly painted house without worry. ![]() Get all Paint articles via
