Employee Recruitment

by Andrew Kozlov

How can you expand your employee recruitment pool to get the best and brightest potential candidates? While it's all well and good to advertise broadly on internet job posts, on television, and in print ads, you may also think about poaching employees from your competitors. While poaching workers from other firms may engender company vs. company resentments, it can be a very useful tool.

That said, before you start buying up the superstars working for your competitors, you should do a cost benefit analysis to evaluate how the move would affect your business. For instance, let's say that you have a relatively friendly relationship with an industry peer. If you move to poach their talent, you could jeopardize the relationship and thus potentially cost you an ally in an otherwise vigorously competitive market.

Recruiting Employees from Your Competitors

At the same time, bear in mind that your competitors are likely eyeing your talent as well. Yet while business has always been dog eat dog, you want to make sure to stay on a strong moral footing. There may also be legal restrictions in terms of poaching employees from competitors. Get all the facts and deliberate carefully before you make any move to poach.

One simple way to attract the best qualified candidates is to offer unmatched packages. Pay your workers more, give them comprehensive health benefits, and provide enticing working conditions, and you'll naturally attract top-end applicants. Of course, you may have to swallow the cost of treating your employees royally at first. However, over time, this strategy should pay off.
