Internal Medicine CMEs
The Learning CurveIt's a sad fact that, after four years of medical school, four years of internship and residency, and another few years of fellowship, doctors still aren't done with the learning process. Indeed, it is testimony to the complexity of the human body that our understanding of both normative and maladaptive development still is unfolding. What this means is that even the most competent internal medicine practitioner will require continuing education. To some extent, CME requirements reflect a broader philosophy about medicine, namely that it is a life-long pursuit of knowledge. Along these lines, knowledge is construed broadly and CME units can be filled a variety of different ways. From specific coursework in pathology to lectures on preventive and nuclear medicine, there are many ways to ensure up-to-date training. Increasingly, many doctors are expanding their horizons with CME courses that go beyond traditional medicine. Specifically, they are pursuing courses in medical Spanish and cultural competence in an effort to serve diverse patient populations more effectively. As always, your best bet is to go to the web site for the licensure board in order to see which types of classes will fulfill your state's specific requirements. ![]() Get all Medical Education articles via
