Medical Spanish
Pan American HealthPan American health deals with health care issues that span North, South and Central America. From public health initiatives to health care policy, the field covers a broad range of issues. Any medical student wishing to someday practice in a metropolitan area will take the time to become familiar with some of the central issues related to Pan American health. Breaking BoundariesIncreasingly, medical training in the U.S. is proceeding with an awareness of the diversity of the American patient population. Every conceivable country, culture, and religious demographic is represented in the U.S. health care system. Thus, to be effective, health care training must address issues inherent to working with a heterogeneous patient population. In addition to patients from Asia, Africa, and other far corners of the earth, the medical system provides services to a growing number of Latinos. Indeed, individuals from Central and South America are increasingly common patient populations in most major cities. As many people travel back and forth between the U.S. and their native countries, medical training has adopted a broader, more fluid view of the American patient population. The pan-American perspective emphasizes the common medical challenges that confront doctors in America, Mexico, Central, and South America. From disease control to tobacco prevention and HIV/AIDS awareness, an integrated effort toward public education is bound to be the most effective. Students entering the health care system will likely confront a growing number of these issues, making it important to receive ongoing education in pan-American health care perspectives. ![]() Get all Medical Education articles via
