Underwater AdventuresFor many, there is nothing more enjoyable than a day at sea. While some may prefer to spend time relaxing on a white, sandy beach and others may choose to play in the surf, the fact remains that some people simply crave the spray of salt water. However, there are also individuals that require more than just observation from above the water--they desire the beauty and adventure that can lie beneath the surface. When one imagines underwater exploration, SCUBA diving is often the first thing that comes to mind. For many, diving may seem like an unattainable skill, meant only for those that live close to an ocean. This could not be further from the truth. There are many qualified instructors who can teach the basics of diving in any body of water. When looking into SCUBA certification programs, there are a few things to keep in mind. Tips on SCUBA CertificationTaking lessons from an experienced instructor is the first key to getting quality SCUBA training. Look for instructors who have been certified by NAUI (National Association of Underwater Instructors) or PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors). Both of these organizations are well-respected in the diving community for providing a high level of education to their instructors. If the idea of becoming certified does not appeal, there are many underwater adventure companies that can offer you the chance to dive without certification. These companies will give you comprehensive training in the rules and safety of being underwater. Additionally, most diving for these adventures is done with an oxygen tank on board the ship, with a hose leading down into the water to your mouth. This lets the experts control the tank, while you absorb your incredible undersea surroundings. ![]() Get all Adventure Travel articles via
