Shark Migration

by Rebecca Russell

As the northern areas get colder, those who make their homes in the frostier climates often look to travel to a more temperate location. Traveling south for the winter is a common practice for birds and, in the human kingdom, for retirees. This familiar pattern is also attributed to sharks of all shapes and sizes.

Shark Migration Patterns

This migration is very beneficial to the business of shark diving. Shark diving expeditions depend upon the appearance of sharks, and it is far better customer service to have a good idea of where and when sharks may appear. While everyone knows that nature cannot be controlled, a customer is certainly more than likely to give you repeat business and pass along recommendations if they have seen a shark or two.

One of the areas in the United States that has become recently popular for shark diving is just off the coast of San Francisco. The Farallon Islands are known for their annual fall shark visits. Sharks frequent this location to feed upon the many marine mammals that use it for their breeding grounds. It is almost a guarantee if you visit at the right time that sharks will be present.

When researching shark companies, most will give you an idea of peak shark seasons in various locations. A good company will generally offer different trips for the various parts of the year. Therefore, if there is a location that particularly interests you, it is a good idea to look at an online company brochure and plan your vacation time according to the shark schedule.
