Shark Season

by Rebecca Russell

Contrary to popular belief, nature is often predictable. While this may not always be true of the weather (or the weather forecast), when it comes to animals, there are definite seasons. Spring, for instance, is the time when most of nature comes together in a grand rebirth. Many species of animal mate during this time, trees bud with new leaves, and flowers poke up out of the ground. It is an exciting time to observe.

The same is true of the shark population. Sharks have particular times when they congregate by popular feeding grounds, as well as areas to which they migrate during certain times of the year. These different times can help in planning your next shark diving adventure. For instance, if you are looking into a trip to the West Coast, be sure to plan for September, October or November, as these are the months when sharks typically inhabit that area.

In-Season Shark Diving

If you are planning a trip to the Bahamas, it may make sense to travel during the winter months. Sharks tend to move into more tropical waters for the cold seasons, and certain types can be found in and around the islands of the Bahamas. Diving with these sharks, specifically the great hammerhead and the tiger shark, will undoubtedly make for an amazing experience.

Shark diving is not for everyone. While there are many who will pay a great deal of money to swim with these ocean carnivores, chances are there are many more who would pay to stay far away. If you and your loved one differ on this issue, rest assured that there are many diving companies that offer the chance to simply be a passenger. This means that you can take a lovely boat ride, stay dry and warm in the sun, yet still support your loved one in their shark dive and assure yourself that they will return safely home, all limbs intact.
