Shark Web Sites

by Rebecca Russell

It's five o'clock on Sunday evening. Your child has been outside playing all weekend and has just now gotten around to his homework. The assignment is to choose an animal, do a fair amount of research, and write a two-page report on your findings. He comes to you in panic. The library is closed, the research is not done, and the report is due Monday morning. What will he do now?

Sharks on the Internet

A home computer and a connection to the Internet will be the saviors in this situation. A quick search will often get you all of the information you would ever need on any given subject. In the case of sharks, for instance, search engines will bring up anything from aquarium sites to research centers to film critiques.

There are a great many myths surrounding sharks. Many people think that every species of shark enjoys the taste of human flesh. Others believe that sharks are constantly on the hunt for prey. A large percentage of the sites on the Internet are created specifically to explain the origins of these and other myths and to prove that many of them are untrue.

The websites dedicated to the powerful shark are testaments to the aura of mystery and intrigue that surrounds it. There are many people who will go to great lengths to track and record the behavior of each and every member of the shark species. Fortunately for the parent of the above-mentioned child, there is enough information on the Internet to write hundreds of two-page reports on the wide world of sharks.
