Sharks In The BahamasThe Bahamas are thought of by many as the perfect Caribbean vacation spot. With sandy white beaches, crystal blue water and mostly sunny skies, the Bahamas are the picture perfect spot to spend a relaxing week or two. There are, however, certain people for who define "vacation" as a time for new and exciting adventures, not rest and relaxation. These are the individuals who organize the skydiving trip or suggest white water rafting as an afternoon outing. Commonly known as "thrill seekers," these individuals are happier swinging from a bungee cord than lounging by a pool. There are those of us who would love nothing more than to lie in the sun and sip martinis for an entire week, and often, we find ourselves partnered with an above-mentioned thrill seeker. It can often be difficult to plan a vacation that suits each individual. Fortunately, the Bahamas can offer activities to please both parties. Tropical Shark DivesSwimming just beneath the surface of the tranquil Caribbean waters is one of the greatest predators of the ocean--the tiger shark. The tiger shark is one of the most dangerous varieties of shark, and they are easily identified by the dark stripes that decorate the back and tail. For those who crave adventure, there are companies that offer the chance to swim with these and other varieties of shark that swim in the tropical waters. If you are considering a shark dive, there are a few things to keep in mind. Many of the shark dives offered in the Bahamas are free dives, meaning that the only thing standing in the way of you and a tiger shark will be the blue water between you. This means that you must be a certified diver and comfortable with all of the equipment. The sharks typically stay close to the shore, so the water is not terribly deep, but you must be sure that you are adept and alert while diving. ![]() Get all Adventure Travel articles via
