Lamisil Side Effects

by Adam Blau

Lamisil can be very effective at decreasing and eliminating fungi that accumulate in and around nails. Lamisil is particularly effective, as it is not a topical ointment; rather, it is ingested, and works through the bloodstream. Its effectiveness is often greater than topical creams, since Lamisil works from the inside of the body to eliminate fungus.

Lamisil and Side Effects

Because it is taken internally, Lamisil may cause some side effects in certain people. Though many people taking Lamisil reportedly experience few or no side effects, there are some reported cases of symptoms like headaches, gastrointestinal abnormalities, and rashes. Your prescribing doctor should be able to explain all of the possible side effects to you before you collectively decide to take Lamisil.

While Lamisil is very effective for many, there are some people who should not ingest the product. If you have liver disease or kidney issues, Lamisil can cause further damage to the organs, and should not be taken. Some people have reported cases in which Lamisil adversely affects white blood cell count. Reported cases have proven to be reversible, however; if the condition arises in a given case, doctors can monitor white blood cell count and adjust treatment accordingly.

As with any prescription medication, it goes without saying that Lamisil should only be taken by the person for whom it is prescribed. It can be exceedingly dangerous to take a product like Lamisil without a prior physician's consultation. Lamisil is effective in eliminating nail fungus, but it is necessary to ensure that the prospective patient is able to healthily ingest the medication.
