Lamisil And Alcohol

by Adam Blau

As those who have used it know, Lamisil is a potent drug that can be enormously successful at eradicating fungal infections in and around fingernails and toenails. Lamisil is available in several formats, including a topical cream and an ingestible tablet form. The latter of these is particularly effective at eliminating infection-causing fungi, as the drug actually enters the bloodstream and works from within.

As with any medication of such potency, there are certain contraindications and possible side effects that may occur. Lamisil actually has relatively few adverse effects, compared with other drugs that are available on the market today. These include headaches and gastrointestinal issues in a fraction of the people who have used the drug.

There is, however, a significantly larger danger for those people who suffer kidney or liver ailments. Lamisil affects each of these organs while it performs its duty, so any prior damage to them can be rendered more severe and lead to further complications if the drug is used. Your physician should be able to address whether or not Lamisil would be right for you.

Drinking Alcohol while Taking Lamisil

Because of its effect on the liver and kidneys, it is typically recommended that users of the drug avoid alcohol while on the medication. In some cases, doctors will allow drinking alcohol in moderation. In other instances, physicians recommend avoiding alcohol completely. Before combining Lamisil with alcohol, consult with your doctor about any possible complications that may arise.
