Credit History Reports

by James Lyons

Your credit history can affect so many aspects of your life. Bad credit can prevent you from securing a lease on an apartment, getting a loan, getting a credit card, getting a job, and getting a car. Bad credit can be paralyzing for a person, which is why it's incredibly important to not only monitor your credit, but manage it responsibly.

Credit card companies prey on kids coming out of high school. They dangle low interest credit cards in the faces of teenagers. These teenagers then take these credit cards and use them like, well, teenagers. They run up high balances and pay the monthly minimums not realizing the possible long-term effects. Many of these teenagers "max out" these cards and then completely neglect making the monthly payments.

Be Responsible with Credit

I was one of those teenagers. My credit card account was eventually referred to a collection agency. I paid off the balance, but my credit report was tarnished for seven years. I had to endure a high interest rate on my car loan and higher interest rates on my new credit cards. I even had a hard time securing a housing lease when I lived in New York City. Had I used that credit card responsibly, I could have saved thousands of dollars in interest.

Moreover, technology has also made it easier for people to steal personal information, otherwise known as identity theft. This is more common than you probably think. Credit history reports will help you monitor your credit. If you see something strange on your credit report, immediately call and report the fraudulent activity on your account. You don't want thieves tarnishing your credit.
